The practice of paying pastors and church leaders is an acceptable model for the church that comes from the Bible.

Talking Points:

  • While at times Paul lived off of what he made as a tentmaker so as not to burden the church, very often he was supported by the generosity of churches. 1 Corinthians 9:4-6
  • Paul instructs the church that elders (church leaders, such as pastors) are worthy of respect and money. The leaders are paid for their work, just as people are in other types of work. 1 Timothy 5:17-18
  • Those who are paid Christian workers should be like the ox who labors and toils, even under difficult conditions, until the work is completed.
