When the Israelites left Egypt, God gave them a special tradition that would help them remember the kindness of God.

In today’s lesson, we’re going to learn about the Passover. The Passover was part of the last and final plague God brought upon Pharaoh and the Egyptians. Remember, God kept giving Pharaoh chances to obey his commands to let his people go but Pharaoh wouldn’t listen. So, the last plague was the worst punishment for his disobedience. But, before God did it, he gave the Israelites very specific instructions about what to do to avoid the plague from hurting their families. God told each family to select a perfect lamb, kill it, and place its blood over the doorposts of their home. When night came, God would then pass over Egypt and wouldn’t bring the plague upon the homes that had blood over their doors. Now, this is a weird and sad story but there is a cool link to how this story relates to us today. It relates to Jesus. Remember, Jesus came to die to pay for our sins. He was perfect because he’s God and he came to give his life for us just like the perfect lambs saved the Israelites on Passover. So kids, remember that just like the Israelites were saved by the blood of the lamb, so are we through the blood of Jesus!
