The word "transgression" in the Bible has a lot of religious and cultural baggage. One thing is sure: it's not an outdated, archaic way of separating "good" people from "bad" people.

Talking Points:

  • To “transgress” means we violate the trust of others. This can happen in a business contract, a military alliance, or in a marriage.
  • Israel transgressed God. Among other things, the Bible narrates the sad story of Israel constantly violating God’s trust by breaking his covenant with them.
  • Jesus is the answer to our transgression. Jesus took on the responsibility of our betrayal so that he could open up a new way toward restored relationship between God and people. Romans 5:15
