God gave his all for us but how do we give our all to him?

Talking Points:

  • God created each and every one of us and he loves us and wants relationship with us. John 3:16
  • We all have a sin problem. Sin is going our own way instead of God’s way. Our sin breaks our relationship with God. Romans 5:6-11
  • Jesus came to die for OUR sins, not his. He came to break the power of sin in our lives so that our relationship with God could be restored. Romans 6:6-11, 1 Peter 2:24
  • Our response to this free gift of forgiveness is faith. It’s surrendering all of us by giving our whole hearts to Jesus. 1 John 1:8-9, Galatians 2:20
Discussion:
  1. Initial reactions to this topic? What jumped out at you?
  2. Share a time you had to surrender. (a close game where you lost, losing your flag in a game of Capture the Flag, a game of chess). How did it feel to acknowledge defeat?
  3. How would you describe God to a friend. How does it feel to know that God wants a relationship with you?
  4. Read Romans 5:6-11 and 1 Peter 2:24. Why is it significant that Christ died for us while we were still sinners? How has Jesus healed us?
  5. Read Romans 6:6-11. In what areas of your life do you still need to surrender to God? What does the passage say about the power of sin versus the power of God?
  6. Read 1 John 1:8-9. What does it mean to confess? Why is confession an important step? What does God promise to do when we trust in him?
  7. Is there a step you need to take based on today’s topic?
