When we choose trust in God over ourselves, he promises to lead us on the right path.
Key Points:
- The book of Proverbs is found in the Old Testament (OT) and it’s a book full of wisdom. King Solomon is the author of much of the book. Solomon had asked God for wisdom and the book of Proverbs is full of some of those wise sayings that we should live by.
- As a parent, Tracy has wrestled with fear over the years. When her kids were young, she wanted to keep them safe. In the teen years, she’s worried about peer pressure, sexual purity, and friendships.
- Tracy admits that her first response to a crisis has usually been to be fearful. Instead of going to God, she’s tried to fix it herself. These verses have reminded her that she needs to rest in God’s knowledge and strength, not her own.
- Instead of trusting in her own understanding, which is limited and finite, she’s trying to start from a place of recognizing who God is and letting him lead the way.
- Another key word in the passage that has challenged Tracy is the word “seek.” We should chase after God’s presence all the time. That means we should regularly read the Bible, pray, and keep our spiritual eyes and ears open to God’s leading.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
