The story of the warrior King David in the Old Testament shows us that men are called to be fierce.
Talking Points:
- God calls men to be “fierce” – driven, passionate, purposeful, bold, and destined. This doesn’t mean cruel, reckless, impulsive, lustful, or selfish. Proverbs 28:1
- God’s Spirit “comes powerfully” upon men the moment they trust Jesus for salvation. It happened to David, and it happens to us today. 1 Samuel 16:13
- The Bible calls this “kavod” (כָּבוֹד) – it’s an awakening to the glory, honor, and dignity that is built inside of you as a man.
Discussion:
- Initial reactions to this topic? What jumped out at you?
- What do you think about when you hear the word “fierce”? Have you noticed that our culture (or church) downplays this word among us? Explain.
- Read 1 Samuel 16:13. Make a list of some of the fiercest men in history and in modern times.
- Read Proverbs 28:1. Talk about what we mean by “fierce”. Which of those characteristics describe your life right now? Which ones don’t?
- Talk about what we don’t mean by “fierce.” Why do you think some men would see it like that? What is the result?
- Is there a step you need to take based on today’s topic?
