The story of the warrior King David in the Old Testament shows us that men are called to be fierce.

Talking Points:

  • God calls men to be “fierce” – driven, passionate, purposeful, bold, and destined.  This doesn’t mean cruel, reckless, impulsive, lustful, or selfish. Proverbs 28:1
  • God’s Spirit “comes powerfully” upon men the moment they trust Jesus for salvation. It happened to David, and it happens to us today. 1 Samuel 16:13
  • The Bible calls this “kavod” (כָּבוֹד) – it’s an awakening to the glory, honor, and dignity that is built inside of you as a man.
Discussion:
  1. Initial reactions to this topic? What jumped out at you?
  2. What do you think about when you hear the word “fierce”? Have you noticed that our culture (or church) downplays this word among us? Explain.
  3. Read 1 Samuel 16:13. Make a list of some of the fiercest men in history and in modern times.
  4. Read Proverbs 28:1. Talk about what we mean by “fierce”. Which of those characteristics describe your life right now? Which ones don’t?
  5. Talk about what we don’t mean by “fierce.” Why do you think some men would see it like that? What is the result?
  6. Is there a step you need to take based on today’s topic?
