Racism will always be a thing until we stop stereotyping and making assumptions about people based on how they look.
Talking Points:
- There is definitely a sense of imbalance in how the judicial system handles crimes committed by African Americans compared to that of whites. This only breeds distrust and fear.
- The white majority doesn’t have the same fears that African Americans have toward opportunity or prejudice from law enforcement. Allen shared a time he was profiled by a police officer who accused him of a crime based on the color of his skin.
- We all need to be aware of our prejudices and stop assuming things about someone based on how they look. It’s better to work to get to know someone and their story rather than just making assumptions.
Quote This:
Philippians 2:3-4 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
