The resources at pursueGOD.org put thousands of topics at your fingertips, but choosing the right topic is up to you and the person you're mentoring.

If you’re ready to make disciples (or “mentor” someone), you’ll have to share biblical truth in love. But which truth, and when? The resources at pursueGOD.org put thousands of topics at your fingertips, but choosing the right topic is up to you and the person you’re mentoring.

Video Highlights:

  • Pray for wisdom about the right topic. Remember that the leading of the Spirit is important in every mentoring relationship – especially if the person you’re helping is far from God.
  • Pick a topic that adds value for the other person. You’ll be tempted to pick something you’re interested in. Or worse yet, you’ll try to cram the truth down someone’s throat. But don’t. If you’re helping a non-believer, consider choosing your initial topics from FLEXTALK.org.
  • Don’t try to jump from A to Z. Remember that it takes time for a person to discover truth. It’s usually a process, and often it’s a slow process. Go from A to B, and then to C. Make a commitment to keep sharing until you arrive at what God wants to reveal.
  • Use the tool, and then let it get out of the way. Choosing topics from FLEXTALK.org and pursueGOD.org helps to get your conversation pointed in the right direction. But don’t let the tool get in the way.
Discussion:
  1. Watch the video together or invite someone to summarize the topic.
  2. What is your initial reaction to this video? Do you disagree with any of it? What jumped out at you?
  3. What are some of your favorite topics on our site, and why?
  4. Name a few topics that would be good for: (a) a non-believer (b) a skeptic (c) a newlywed couple (d) a teen (e) someone you want to mentor.
  5. List a few benefits to using our online mentoring tools. Why is it important to let the tool get out of the way?
  6. Write a personal action step based on this conversation.
