Learn the basic commitments that make our resources work.

Talking Points:

  • It’s important, from the start of a mentoring relationship, to make the commitment clear. (This also helps in a small group). Here are the basic commitments for mentors and mentees.
    • The group leader commits to model a healthy pursuit of God, to pray for their mentees/group, and schedule and facilitate meetings.
    • The group members commit to prepare in advance by watching the topic ahead of time, show up, and participate in the conversation.
Discussion:
  1. Initial reactions to this topic? What jumped out at you?
  2. Have you ever been a part of a mentoring relationship? How did it work? Was it helpful to you?
  3. Talk about the FLEX Method for mentoring conversations. Do you have any questions about it (or about how the resource library works)?
  4. Take some time to schedule your meetings now, preferably at a fixed time each week. Will you meet on the phone or in person? Will others join you? Be clear about the details.
  5. Talk about your basic commitment to each other. Can you sign on to this commitment? Try to make the commitment for 3 months, and renew the commitment as necessary.
  6. Is there a step you need to take based on today’s topic?
