David lost focus on God and it caused him to make a huge mistake.

David started out great. God helped him to defeat many enemies and he did a lot of great things for the people of Israel. He was a popular and well liked guy. But, David’s popularity became a problem. David began to think that he was great all on his own. He let his power go to his head and he ended up making a big mistake. This mistake hurt people. David even had someone killed to cover up his mistake. This made God angry. So, God sent a prophet Nathan to tell David that he was being a big jerk. Nathan told a story about a super rich guy going to a super poor guy and taking his only sheep to kill and eat. David was really angry when he heard what the rich guy did. Nathan said, “David, you’re the rich guy in the story. You took something that didn’t belong to you.” David realized that he messed up. He forgot that every success he had was because of God and his greatness working through David. David told God he was sorry and God forgave him!  This is true for us, too. When we mess up, God will forgive us! But, he wants us to admit when we’re wrong so we can learn from it.
