Mentoring Can Grow Our Faith

Mentoring/discipling others can stretch and push us in ways we haven’t yet experienced, and that’s why people can experience great growth when they begin doing it in earnest.

Training and practice are still necessary, and you should try out the Mentoring 101 Series if you want to use the pursueGOD.org resources to help make disciples. But at some point, rubber needs to make road and you need to take the leap to start mentoring/discipling someone.

How Do You Know if Someone Is Ready?

People often don’t feel ready. There’s always another class or session to attend. At pursueGOD, we encourage you to go out and try it even if you or the person you’re mentoring is a bit hesitant.

One surefire way to know if someone is ready to mentor/disciple is that they are following Jesus! Next, they need to be living a God-honoring life and growing in that direction. If we’re not truly honoring God ore are consistently struggling through a sin pattern or are not willing to recognize certain patterns as sinful, it’s not the time to mentor others.

People who want to make disciples need to be ready and willing to do so. We don’t need to be perfect, we just need to be ready and willing, and we need to be on the right spiritual trajectory with Jesus.

Bible Knowledge?

We need to know our Bibles if we’re walking with Jesus and helping others to do so, but Bible knowledge is not the be-all, end-all of the Christian life. You can know the Bible without living biblically. (We know from Jesus’s temptation in the wilderness that Satan knows the Bible, but look where that got him!)
