Pornography is more accepted in the military than in the culture at large. Find out why and what to do about it.

Key Points:

  • The military is mostly men with a lot of “type A” personalities in somewhat of  “locker room” environment. Men together in that environment tend to talk about sex and women, which easily lends itself to porn.
  • Another reason porn is prevalent is that when a man is away from his wife or significant other for long periods of time, his sexual needs are not being met and pornography is easily available. Some men say that it prevents infidelity because they are turning to pornography and masturbation instead of to cheating on their wife.
  • The starting point to victory is accepting that it’s wrong. For Christians especially, recognize that this is a sin issue (Matthew 5:27-28).
  • Take some time to weigh the pros and the cons. There are no long-term “pros” when it comes to pornography, only short-term gratification. The long-term “cons” far outweigh the short-term “pros.”
  • Seek greater pleasure in Christ. This is the root of the issue. Our greatest joy in life comes from our new life in Christ, not from anything else (Romans 14:17).
  • Porn may or may not hurt your spouse or future spouse in the short-term, but in the long-term it will affect your relationships and how you view others.

Quote This:

Matthew 5:27-28 You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
