Pursuing God isn’t always exciting, so we need to enjoy God even when it’s boring.

It’s easy to find ourselves wanting the next exciting thing in life and getting bored. When we find ourselves in these situations, we think we must not be where God wants us. We think that God wants exciting things for our lives, but that’s not always true.

Social Media Makes Things Worse

Social media only makes us feel like our lives are even more boring than they seem. When you get on social media, you see all these people going on crazy trips or doing crazy things. Comparing your life to how someone presents themselves on social media is an unrealistic comparison. Social media is simply a highlight reel of someone’s life. They aren’t going to post about their own boring job or boring classes.

People in the Bible Didn’t Live the Most Exciting Lives

Most of the time you are sitting in church, you probably hear all sorts of stories about walking on water and parting seas. The Bible has a lot of stories in it that are exciting. When you read these stories or hear them during a sermon, you probably start to think, “If the people in the Bible lived reckless lives, I need to as well!” And that’s not quite true. What people fail to realize is that a lot of the Bible is about average people doing average things. Just take a look at books like Habakkuk or letters to churches that are just telling the people how to live. Those things aren’t extremely exciting. They contain normal people doing normal things, but they are still vital to the story of the Bible.

The Exciting Thing in Life Is to Live Like Jesus

If you are living your life with the goal of living like Jesus, then you are doing it right. Sure, there might be exciting highlights to a life like this, but it will still be a lot of normal day-to-day stuff.

1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Everything we do should be to lift up God’s Kingdom. Sometimes all that means is not gossiping or just being nice to people who get on your nerves. These are the ways we become more like Jesus. It’s not always going to look glamorous, but if you do it with a joyful heart and the right perspective, it won’t be boring. Whether things are good, bad, boring, or exciting, God intends to use that to make you more like Christ.
