One of the main struggles you will face as a worship team leader or member is being up on the stage for the right reasons. You will constantly have to check your heart to see what your motivation is for being on a worship team. If your motivation is to showcase your talents and receive praise from the people in your congregation, you are a performer, not a worship leader.
Video Highlights
- We need to continually examine ourselves and make sure our motivation is to lead worship and not to merely perform.
- There will always be an element to performing when it comes to getting up on a stage and playing an instrument.
- A certain amount of performance is required in worship leading.
- The difference between performing and worship leading comes back to the posture of your heart.
- It is better “felt than telt” as to if your heart is in the right place, because from the outside it can look the same.
- Cultivate your heart and your skill.
- Play and sing with a passion for God–that will resonate with your congregation.
- Make God your audience, not people.
- We don’t want to project a “bummed out” sort of attitude, but we should be ourselves and worship the Lord with gladness.
- Take time during the week to minister and worship the Lord by yourself or with a small group of people at your church.
- The service is where you do publically what you have been doing privately throughout the week.
