If you want to get good at something, you need to practice it. Well, if you want to grow as a Christian, then there are some things you need to put into practice in your life.

You know you don’t automatically become a great Christian. It’s not like you wake up one day, and poof, you’re no longer a jerk and you always do the right thing. To help us grow as Christians, God gives us some things to do, some practices that we can build into our lives.

Get good at reading God’s Word
If you want to know how to live like a Christian, and if you want to know what God thinks about your life, then you need to read the Bible. The Bible is God’s Word written to you. If you need some help reading the Bible, check out our Bible reading plans at pursueGOD.org.

Learn to Pray
As Christians, we have the opportunity to talk to God. We do this in prayer. In prayer, we can praise God, tell God what is on our minds, and tell him our needs. Just like you talk to your friends so that you can grow closer to them, God wants you to talk to him. If you need help on prayer, check out one of our series on prayer.

Get a Coach
If you want to great at a sport, you need a coach. A coach will give you tips to help you out, and point out any errors that you are making that are preventing you from achieving your goals. As Christians, we need coaches too. We call our coaches mentors. Hopefully, your small group leader is a mentor in your life. He or she is there to help you grow in your pursuit of God.
