Here's what NOT to do when your sin finds you out in life.

Key Points:

  • The “Cover Up” (2 Samuel 11). David used this when he tried to cover up his sexual sin by killing the husband of the woman he violated. It didn’t work.
  • The “Blow Off” (Luke 18:11). This is when we minimize our sin and pretend that it’s no big deal.
  • The “Mad King” (Matthew 14:3-5). This is when we get indignant when someone else calls out our sin. Herod did this to John the Baptist, eventually beheading him.
  • The “Finger Point” (Genesis 3:11-13). This is when we say, “it’s not my fault”. This is the oldest trick in the book, literally. Both Adam and Eve did it in the Garden of Eden.
  • The “Big But”. That’s when you rationalize your sin away, arguing based on extenuating circumstances.
  • The “Sorry Card” (2 Corinthians 7:10). That’s when you’re sorry you got caught, and you even say the words. But you’re not truly sorry for what you did.

Quote This:

Genesis 3:11-13 “Who told you that you were naked?” the Lord God asked. “Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?” The man replied, “It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.” Then the Lord God asked the woman, “What have you done?” “The serpent deceived me,” she replied. “That’s why I ate it.”
