The media is buzzing about gay marriage in the wake of the recent Supreme Court ruling. But how should Christians think about it?

Talking Points:

  • The Bible clearly defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman for life. Genesis 2:18,24
  • Agree with it or not, the Bible makes clear what is right and what is wrong. On the issue of sexuality, there is little room for misinterpretation. Romans 1:25-27
  • Sin can be defined as trusting and acting on our own feelings and opinions instead of trusting and acting on God’s truth. Christians come to God on his terms, not their own.
  • Jesus calls us to love God and love others. He also calls us to obey him. The trick for Christians today is to stand firmly in our biblical convictions without being mean or hateful. Matthew 22:37-39
  • Many Christians are afraid to share what they believe for fear that it will come across as hate speech. But just as those with a secular worldview can share their values freely in society, Christians can – and should – share their biblical values with anyone who will listen.
